Dodworth is a former mining community and is situated 2 miles west of the town centre of Barnsley in South Yorkshire, with a population of around 10,000. Local housing is mixed modern estates and old cottages with now privately-owned former council properties.
Good motorway access is leading to commuters moving into the village. There is a railway station with trains running between Sheffield and Huddersfield hourly. Barnsley railway station is a good connecting point for Leeds, Wakefield and Sheffield.
